Unleashing excellent teaching

Overview

How can you unleash excellent teaching? This module places reflection at the heart of school improvement. It unpacks the features of effective practice and explores how to use evidence to identify areas for development. Staff will create an action plan to support focused and sustained self-improvement.

This module is suitable for all teaching staff and will be particularly relevant for those who are newly or recently qualified. It will also serve as a useful refresher for more experienced teachers. Each session is designed to last between 90 minutes and 2 hours. However, you may wish to adapt the content to suit your timings or the needs of your staff.

This module was developed in partnership with George Abbot Teaching School. George Abbot was one of the first teaching schools in England. It focuses on providing excellence in professional development and educational innovation for schools, their pupils and workforce. We worked with Peter Gale and Andrew Roach. Peter Gale is the Director of Education of GEP Academies, he was formerly the director of teaching school at George Abbot Teaching School. Previously, he worked as one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors, and he has also carried out educational consultancy work for Challenge Partners, Future Academies and a variety of individual schools. Andrew Roach was previously the senior deputy headteacher in an ‘outstanding’ secondary school and now works as the director of George Abbot Teaching School. Andrew is also a face-to-face and online facilitator for NPQML, NPQSL and NPQH and continues to support school leaders at all levels in professional development and coaching.
