Skilful questioning

Overview

How well equipped are your staff to craft high-quality classroom questions? This module provides an opportunity to reflect on questioning practice and to explore a range of theories on effective questioning. Throughout the module, participants will develop practical strategies and resources that can be used and adapted for the classroom.

The module is suitable for teachers and support staff from early years to secondary education. There are four 90-minute sessions available. However, you may wish to adapt the content to suit your timings and the needs of your staff. To get maximum benefit from the module, we recommend that the sessions are run consecutively, with sufficient time between sessions for participants to complete the inter-session tasks.

This module was developed in partnership with John Collier, deputy director at the Britannia Teaching School Alliance. John leads on the CPD strand there both as main facilitator and creator of teaching and learning programmes. John is also a specialist leader of education and is a member of the St Bart’s Multi Academy Trust executive board.
