Fire safety awareness for school staff
Staff fire safety training is a requirement for all schools. This course covers the basics of good fire safety and what this looks like in your school, including how to prevent fire, what to do if it occurs and how to use different extinguishers.

This course covers:
- Why fire safety is so important
- How to identify fire risks
- How to prevent a fire from starting
- What to do in the event of a fire in your school
- How to use fire extinguishers
Refresh this training every 6 to 12 months, as recommended to us by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Completing this training is an important step in meeting your fire safety training requirements, but you’ll also need to:
- Carry out regular fire drills
- Make sure your staff know your school’s fire escape routes
- Provide additional training for staff who support colleagues or pupils with personal emergency evacuation plans (PEEPs), based on individual needs
