Fire warden training for school staff
Learn how to lead a safe, accountable evacuation as your school's appointed fire warden, from spotting hazards day-to-day to deciding whether to tackle a fire or evacuate.
Who it's for
Fire wardens/marshals
Note: The terms fire warden and fire marshal can be used interchangeably. This course uses the term 'warden', but the content is applicable whichever term your school chooses to use.
This course covers how to:
- Explain your responsibilities as a fire warden
- Recognise what a sweep and clear of your area looks like, and how to report any issues you find
- Identify and report a fire hazard or fault straight away
- Make sure the school’s evacuation plan is implemented properly, including personal emergency evacuation plans (PEEPs)
- Decide whether to attempt to extinguish a fire yourself, or whether to evacuate
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, your school must appoint competent people to help it meet its fire safety duties, and provide them with adequate training. Being asked to take on the fire warden role is how your school meets that legal duty.
This course assumes you've already completed our 'Fire safety awareness for school staff' course, or equivalent, and builds on it with the additional responsibilities of your role.
